Luncheon Promises To be The Best
Mon. Sep 13, 2010
Tickets for this year’s Power of Pink! go on sale Monday, September 13 at Memorial Medical Center-Lufkin, the Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center and Studio 319. This educational forum, which raises awareness about women and breast cancer, will be held October 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pitser Garrison Civic Center in Lufkin. Tickets are $15 each or $250 for a reserved table of 8. Seating is limited.
The year’s luncheon promises to be the best yet! Motivational speaker and breast cancer survivor Heidi Marble will be on hand to tell her courageous story of surviving breast cancer. Her presentation blends humor and her own real life experiences to touch and inspire audiences. “At the age of 34, Heidi was told not to expect to live more than 18 months after a diagnosis of stage 3 b inflammatory breast cancer,” said Yana Ogletree, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Memorial. “She is now a 10 year survivor with an incredible story to share.” Heidi has focused on spreading hope and awareness over the past 10 years through public speaking and writing two books, Waiting for Wings and Taking Flight-, which will launch in late 2010.
With the continual support of the community, Power of Pink! has been chosen Best Community Event by Lufkin Daily News readers 3 years running, and sponsors such as Angelina County Medical Society, ADRA Medical Imaging, Consolidated Communications, East Texas Hematology and Oncology Clinic, Kwik Kopy Printing, Lufkin Industries, First Bank and Trust East Texas, McKesson, Studio 319 and The Main Event, KTRE-TV, and The Lufkin Daily News, this event has developed into one of the largest public events for breast cancer awareness in East Texas. This year more than 700 women are expected to attend.
“This event is not just an opportunity for ladies in our community to learn about this terrible disease, but an opportunity to come together to show support and understanding for those who are going through or have gone through breast cancer,” said Lindsey Mott, Community Relations Specialist at Memorial Health System of East Texas and Power of Pink! coordinator. “Women can walk away from the luncheon feeling empowered and knowing that they are not alone in their struggles.” Thanks to community partner, KTRE-TV, Power of Pink will have a grand prize drawing for a trip for two to New York to see the Live with Regis and Kelly Show. Tickets for the grand prize raffle are $5 each or $10 for three tickets. Tickets can be purchased beginning September 27 from Memorial Medical Center-Lufkin, The Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center and Studio 319.
Power of Pink! also will host “The 2nd Annual Art Bra” Exhibit. Memorial Health System of East Texas, Abeldt’s Pharmacy, and Neches House Assisted Living have teamed up again to present The Art Bra Contest in conjunction with Power of Pink! Ladies from the community are invited to decorate bras that will be judged and displayed at Power of Pink! Rules and entry forms can be picked up at Memorial Health System of East Texas, Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center, Abeldt’s Pharmacy, and Neches House Assisted Living. For more information on the Art Bra Contest please contact Melissa Wheeler at 936-631-3099 or Vallie Cross at 936-639-9727.
“All funds raised from this event go to help patients in need at the Arthur Temple Sr. Regional Cancer Center,” said Ms. Mott. “Without the awesome response from the community to this event, we would not be able to help hundreds of patients in need at the Cancer Center. On top of helping others, those who attend are able to leave with a better understanding and awareness of breast cancer.” Tickets are sold on a “first come, first serve” basis. Tables of 8 can be reserved with a $250 table sponsorship. Additionally, specially designed T-shirts by Heidi Marble will be available for purchase before and at the event for $25 each.
