Plans for Your Custom Home

When you are custom designing your house you are going to expect to pay a little more than if you had bought a home as is. With this extra cost, however, you are getting a house that is unique to your needs and wants of a house.

The actual process of designing your house needs to be carefully considered by a professional. An architect can design your house and draw up the plans and provide them to your contractor of choice. However, since they must be registered and they have a vast knowledge of design, architects will usually run about 6-8% of the total cost of your house in price. A draftperson will not be as expensive but they are not registered either. They are the people to go to if you know exactly what you want but are not knowledgeable enough to draw up the plans yourself.

When working with the professional in the designing process you must consider certain aspects of the house:

• Your budget
• The number of rooms needed
• The style of roof
• The types of doors and windows
• How to best orient the house to use the sunlight
• Access to the house and
• The style of house that works best with your land space

When you have considered these things you are ready to start designing your house and drawing up blueprints with the designer and builder. The final design will likely be a good compromise between your budget, your needs, and the little extras that you want that make that house uniquely yours.
